Diary Entry #146

Translated and inscribed on December 8, 2012 by Punch Bowl correspondent Nikhil Menezes:

Dear Diary,

I yearn for sunlight. It’s been 4 months and 23 days since the event. I’ve been trying to keep up with you diary, but it’s just so hard these days. 4 months, 23 days and still I can’t leave my house without trouble, without interruption, without some kid asking me to “Do the dance!” I wish I could spit in their face, but with my luck that would become the next world sensation. I should feel powerful, but I know I was more in control 4 months and 23 days ago.

That was the day I unleashed my art on the world. When I opened the gates to my heart and let the floods crash down on the tear-stained notebook in front of me. When I wrote of the girl who is warm and humanly during the day, a classy girl who knows how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee, a girl whose heart gets hotter when night comes. I can’t help but laugh now; my friends tell me that she chants the song with all the others at parties. I wonder if she knows it was all for her.

Bieber’s henchmen visited me a couple of weeks ago. They said something about my video stirring up trouble at JB HQ, too many views or something of that nature. They were threatening to break my fingers one by one, but thankfully the little brat was in the limo behind them and told them to back off. I chuckled nervously as he yelled something about swag out of the window as the car drove away. I’m sure I’ll be forced to collaborate in return for his generosity. I wonder if these are the types of people I am destined to be associated with, these cheap entertainers, these corporate whores. But for now I will maintain sanctuary in my house, the only place free from flash mobs and parodies. The only place where Gangam Style means something more than a funny little dance.

Peace and love,

Park Jae-Sang
